Dr. Irina Oroz is an accomplished dermatologist and academic leader with a distinguished career in both clinical practice and medical education. She holds multiple designations, including Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Dermatology, Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology (DABD), and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD).
Born in Yugoslavia and raised on the Prairies, Dr. Oroz studied kinesiology and completed her medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan. She completed her dermatology residency program at the University of Alberta and further enhanced her education with elective training in cosmetic dermatology, skin cancer, and complex medical dermatology in the USA, Australia, and across Canada.
Dr. Oroz brings a wealth of experience unique to the prairies to her role as a Regional Director representing the Prairie Provinces on the CDA’s board of directors. Her practice is attuned to the complex needs of the prairie provinces, with a focus on complex medical dermatology, including lupus and hidradenitis suppurativa, cutaneous oncology and surgery, as well as cosmetics.
Dr. Oroz has been an assistant professor at the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, since 2018. In 2021, she also became the Co-Chair of the Science-Physiology-Therapeutics (SPOT) Program, formerly known as BoSS, extending her passion for medical education to a national level.
In addition to her academic and clinical duties, Dr. Oroz is actively involved in several provincial and national organizations. She is the current Vice President and co-founder of the Saskatchewan Dermatology Association, represents dermatology on the Saskatchewan Medical Association’s Intersectional Council, and is a representative for Region 2 on the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Dermatology Specialty Committee.
Dr. Oroz has a strong background in research, contributing to several publications and conference presentations. She is a frequent reviewer for the CDA’s Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery (JCMS), and she has contributed to the dermatology section of the renowned RX Files in a writing and editing capacity. A notable publication includes the discovery of a novel EVER1 gene polymorphism of epidermodysplasia verruciformis. Most recently, she is involved in the Canadian Acne Guidelines Project.
A passionate advocate for patient education, Dr. Oroz believes in delivering quality information directly to patients. She has lectured nationally on the importance of dermatologists leveraging social media to educate patients, dispel myths and inaccuracies, and frequently collaborates with news, television, and print media to deliver patient education.
Having joined the CDA as a resident physician, Dr. Oroz has been a member of the organization for 12 years. In addition to serving as Reginal Director, Prairie Provinces, on the CDA Board of Directors, she actively participates in a number of CDA committees, including the Advocacy and Stakeholder Relations Committee, the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Advisory Board, and the Sun Awareness Working Group.

Through her roles on the CDA board of directors and various association committees, Dr. Oroz has dedicated herself to supporting, advocating for, and protecting the specialty of dermatology in Canada.
