Dr. Maxwell Benjamin Sauder, born and raised in Ontario, pursued his medical degree at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University, following his undergraduate studies at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He completed his residency in dermatology at the University of Ottawa and further specialized in cutaneous oncology with a fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School. Currently, Dr. Sauder practices in Toronto, Ontario, focusing on medical dermatology and cutaneous oncology. He is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto and serves as an onco-dermatologist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, with a focus on advancing dermatological care in oncology.
Dr. Sauder’s expertise spans both clinical practice and research, with numerous significant contributions to the field of dermatology. His research work includes over 40 clinical trials, primarily focused on inflammatory skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, where he serves as a principal investigator. He has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, with his most recent work appearing in the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and JAMA Dermatology. His dedication to education is evident through his role as Fellowship Director of Cutaneous Oncology at the University of Toronto, where he mentors the next generation of dermatologists.
Since joining the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) in 2011, Dr. Sauder has been an active member, contributing to various committees and initiatives. His involvement includes roles on the Sun Awareness Working Group, Finance and Audit Committee, Governance and Nominating Committee, and Executive Committee. He is also currently serving as secretary of the Dermatology Association of Ontario. As Treasurer of the CDA, Dr. Sauder is dedicated to ensuring the association’s financial health and strategic growth, aiming to enhance resources and support for dermatologists across Canada.
