OTTAWA, ON – July 1, 2019 – Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) is pleased to announce the election of Dr. Kerri Purdy as its new president, effective July 1, 2019. Dr. Purdy plans to focus on education to improve skin health in Canada. “With my experience in teaching dermatology to students and residents, I am committed to solidifying the position of the CDA as a leader in education about best practices for skin health and as the go-to source of reliable information about dermatologic conditions for patients”, says Dr. Purdy. “Dermalogues,” a new podcast series that Dr. Purdy developed for dermatology residents, has already become popular as a way to learn about specific topics, and reflects her emphasis on education. Dr. Purdy brings to the CDA strong leadership and experience in education. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and director of its dermatology residency training program. She also has a medical dermatology practice in Halifax. Dr. Purdy graduated with an honours degree in neuroscience and a medical degree from Dalhousie University. She completed training in internal medicine as well as dermatology, and holds certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in both specialties. Dr. Purdy had been vice-president of the CDA since 2017. She is a member of the Atlantic Provinces Dermatology Association, the American Academy of Dermatology, the European Association of Dermatology and Venereology; past co-chair of the DRIVE committee, the CDA Education Committee, the CDA Practice Management Symposium planning committee, the CDA Conference planning committee and the CDA Future of Dermatology Working Group; and is a former member of the CDA Membership and Awards Committee. She is also a member of the Dermatology Working Group at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is on the Specialty Committee as the Dalhousie residency training program director. She is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery.
