From life-altering to life‑threatening diseases, patients cannot afford to wait for care. Addressing long-waits for access to dermatologists requires collaboration and sustainable reforms that better serve Canadians.
Learn what faster access to dermatology care means for patients.
There are only 800 certified dermatologists for the over 40 million people in Canada. In Canada, patients face extensive wait times with chronic and acute skin conditions that worsen and impact their quality of life.

Connecting with Elected Candidates
The Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) has developed materials to support Members’ outreach to elected federal election candidates. The CDA is calling on elected candidates to support the much-needed investments and action to address critical issues facing the dermatology profession.
This post election cycle presents an important opportunity to make strides in shaping policy to improve dermatological care and outcomes for Canadian patients directly.

In 2021, 4.69 billion new cases were diagnosed worldwide, making skin disease the fourth leading cause of non fatal disease burden and placing it among the top 10 causes of disability globally.1 Today, over 3.3 billion people across all age groups are living with a skin condition.
Providing Life Changing Treatment
Across Canada, patients living with skin conditions and those who have faced a skin cancer diagnosis have experienced life-changing care thanks to the expertise of Canada’s certified dermatologists. Their stories highlight the vital role dermatologists play in diagnosing, treating, and improving lives. They also underscore the need for finding practical, long-term solutions that can ensure timely access to dermatologic care.
Make Your Voice Heard
With just over 800 certified dermatologists serving a population of 40 million people in Canada, the current system is stretched beyond capacity. That is why we are calling on government to:
- Increase the number of trained dermatologists in Canada to reach comparable levels to that of other OECD countries within four years.
- Fund innovative investments specifically for specialty care into Budget 2026, to complement work being done to support primary care in Canada.
- Invest in innovative technologies that enhance diagnostic accuracy, improve dermatologic care and expand access—especially in rural and remote communities.
Every Canadian deserves timely access to expert dermatologic care. To add your voice to this call, sign our petition and help drive real change. Every signature counts
