As a community of Certified Dermatologists, we are dedicated to advancing the science of dermatology encompassing over 3000 skin, hair and nail conditions. Our commitment extends beyond professional support; we also protect and educate the public through comprehensive educational initiatives and our product recognition program.
The CDA Board of Directors governs the Canadian Dermatology Association in accordance with the Association’s mission, vision, and values.
The CDA Board is responsible for the overall governance of the affairs of the Association. It adheres to a model of governance through which it provides strategic leadership and direction to the Association, while always maintaining a clear distinction between CDA Board and management roles and recognizing the interdependencies between them.

Born in Montreal, Dr. Mark Kirchhof pursued an undergraduate degree in molecular biology at McMaster before earning an MD/PhD in immunology from Western University. After completing residency at the University of British Columbia, he now serves as Head of Dermatology at the University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
With a decade of experience in practice, Dr. Kirchhof has developed a specialized interest in inflammatory skin diseases. He is a recognized authority in the field, having authored over 90 publications and presented at numerous local, national, and international conferences. Dr. Kirchhof’s recent accolades include the 2020 University of Ottawa Award for Excellence in Continuing Professional Development, the 2020 Dermatology Residency Program Clinical Teacher Staff Award, two 2021 University of Ottawa CME Educator Awards for Professional Competency and Leadership (Manager) Competency, and the 2022 Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) Early Career Volunteer Award.
Dr. Kirchhof has been an active member of the CDA since joining as a dermatology resident in 2009, becoming a full member in 2014. From 2011 to 2012, he served as the Junior CDA Representative for the University of British Columbia Dermatology Program, and from 2012 to 2014, he was the Senior CDA Representative.
From 2016 to 2023, Dr. Kirchhof was the CDA Representative on the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Dermatology Section and a non-voting member of the CDA Board. He led the New Investigators Symposium at the CDA Annual Conference from 2018 to 2021, participated in the 2020 CDA Virtual Meeting Committee, and currently chairs the CDA Advocacy and Stakeholder Relations Committee for 2022–2024. Additionally, he served as CDA Vice President from 2023 to 2024 and is currently President. He has also been an examiner for the Royal College for the past seven years.
Dr. Kirchhof has also contributed to the Future of Dermatology Working Group and the CDA Guidelines Committee, as well as being heavily involved in the CDA’s advocacy work.

Dr. Gabriele Weichert brings over 20 years of experience in medical and aesthetic dermatology to her role on the Board of Directors. She is currently the medical director at SkinCareWest, a medical and surgical Dermatology clinic in Nanaimo, BC. Dr. Weichert, originally from Ottawa, Ontario, began her academic journey with an undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo. She completed her Dermatology residency at the University of British Columbia and holds an MD from McMaster University Medical School. Her academic achievements also include a PhD in Physiology from the University of British Columbia.
Throughout her career, Dr. Weichert has been dedicated to advancing patient care and supporting dermatology professionals. Her leadership spans from managing complex cases in community practice on Vancouver Island to overseeing large medical and aesthetic practices. She has been an active member of the CDA since 2005, contributing significantly through her roles on the Executive Committee, Governance and Nominations Committee, and Finance and Audit Committee. Her extensive involvement in these committees underscores her commitment to enhancing organizational governance, financial oversight, and strategic development.
Dr. Weichert is committed to enhancing the association’s role as a continually expanding central resource for member and patient education. She aims to strengthen support for dermatologists across Canada, ensuring they are able to deliver high-quality care and remain at the forefront of dermatological advancements. Dr. Gabriele Weichert brings a wealth of experience in community, medical, and aesthetic dermatology, with a dedicated commitment to balancing patient care and supporting dermatology colleagues in Canada.
Dr. Mariusz Sapijaszko immigrated to Canada in the late 1980s, and he has made significant contributions to Canadian values through his work, research, education, and dedication.
His educational journey began in Calgary, where he completed his high school, undergraduate, and medical school studies, as well as volunteer commitments. Dr. Sapijaszko then pursued specialized training in dermatology and fellowship programs at the University of British Columbia and the University of California, San Francisco. Throughout that period, Dr. Sapijaszko remained involved in student and physician leadership.
Upon returning to Alberta, Dr. Sapijaszko established a community-based practice focusing on surgical, medical, and research dermatology, including skin cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. During this period, Dr. Sapijaszko also became actively involved in provincial and national medical organizations, including the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, the Alberta Medical Association, the Alberta Society of Dermatologists, the Canadian Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Canadian Dermatology Association.
Dr. Sapijaszko has dedicated his attention to the prevention, detection, and treatment of skin cancer. Recently, he pursued studies in complementary and regenerative medicine, with an emphasis on general health and dermatology.
On the advocacy side, Dr. Sapijaszko has been involved at regional, provincial, and national levels, advocating for the promotion and protection of dermatologists as experts in the health and disease of skin, hair, and nails.
Dr. Sapijaszko has been actively involved with the CDA for nearly 25 years, serving on various committees, including the Sun Awareness Working Group and the Future of Dermatology Working Group. He has also held several leadership positions on the CDA Board of Directors, including Secretary, Vice President, President Elect, President, and Past President.

I was born and raised in Moncton, New Brunswick. I began my medical education with two years of pre-medical studies at Université de Moncton, followed by medical school and a dermatology residency at Université Laval. I completed residency training in 2018.
At the beginning of my practice, I divided my time between hospital and community-based clinic. I am now fully dedicated to community practice, where I provide comprehensive medical dermatology services, basic cosmetic procedures, and advanced mole mapping for early skin cancer detection.
I have established a team-based, community-focused dermatology practice with a strong emphasis on complex medical dermatology, serving patients from childhood through to older adulthood. Our multidisciplinary team includes nurses, a biologic coordinator, a family physician, and administrative support, allowing us to deliver comprehensive, coordinated care.
We manage a high volume of patients on advanced therapies for a variety of skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, alopecia areata, and vitiligo. I also follow a large cohort of melanoma patients and regularly assess and treat various types of skin cancer.
With the support of private investors from my local community, we acquired a Vectra WB360 total body imaging system for the clinic. Considering the significant wait times to access dermatology care across the Atlantic provinces, this technology allows us to provide timely and consistent mole monitoring, enhancing early detection of melanoma.
I have a strong commitment to medical education and professional development. While I have a few academic publications, my primary focus has been on teaching and mentoring. I provide extensive clinical teaching to family medicine residents, medical students, and physician colleagues.
Since 2022, I have been actively involved in the DRIVE program as an examiner. I served as the incoming co-chair for the 2025 cycle and currently hold the position of co-chair for the 2026 practice exam. In addition, I hold the position of Clinical Assistant Professor at three institutions: Université de Sherbrooke, Dalhousie University, and Memorial University.
I am a regular presenter at hospital grand rounds and contribute to our region’s annual internal medicine conference. In recognition of my community and professional contributions, I was named a finalist for the Moncton Chamber of Commerce’s Top 20 Under 40 in June 2025.
I have a strong interest in continuing education related to business management, time management, clinical efficiency, and optimizing patient flow. I have attended numerous lectures and read extensively on these topics, which has supported the growth and development of my multidisciplinary, team-based dermatology practice.
I first joined the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) as a resident and became an official member upon completing my dermatology training in 2018. I have maintained active membership for the past seven years. While I had not previously participated in CDA committees or working groups, I had always been interested in becoming more involved. I am now thrilled to be contributing more actively to the organization as a member of the Executive Committee, serving as Vice President for the 2025–2026 term.

Dr. Tet Khlabatyn is a certified dermatologist at Storwick Dermatology in Calgary, AB, where she specializes in medical, surgical, and aesthetic dermatology. Originally from Ukraine, Dr. Khlabatyn is fluent in three different languages, enhancing her ability to serve a diverse patient base.
She began her academic journey at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, BC, where she earned a dual degree in human resources and marketing. After eight years of consulting for community organizations, Dr. Khlabatyn returned to UBC to pursue her medical degree. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of Calgary and continues to contribute to the field as a teacher for medical students and residents.
Dr. Khlabatyn has been an active member of the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) since 2017, previously serving on the Membership and Award Committee. Her goal is to combine her prior experience in human resources and not-for-profit leadership to support the needs of the growing dermatology community while also advancing patient advocacy and education.

Dr. Ringuet is a board-certified dermatologist who practices in Quebec City, QC, his alma mater. He dedicates his practice to research and medical dermatology, serving as the principal investigator and medical director at the Centre de Recherche Dermatologique de Québec (CRDQ). His training background includes a bachelor’s degree in biology, followed by medical training (MD) and postgraduate studies in dermatology from Laval University, as well as a master’s in experimental medicine (MSc.) in the field of skin bioengineering at the Laboratoire d’Organogénèse Expérimentale de l’Université Laval (LOEX/CMDGT).
At the CRDQ, Dr. Ringuet and his team are dedicated to providing patients access to quality and innovative public dermatological care and clinical trials focused on alopecia areata, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and its variants, as well as vitiligo. To date, he has led, as a principal investigator, more than 50 phase 2, 3, and 4 clinical trials. His dedicated work and contribution on a regional and national level led to various teaching initiatives, continuous medical education, and publications.
Dr. Ringuet has been a member of the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) since his practice debut in 2020, as well as the Education Committee since 2023. He is currently the Treasurer on the Board of Directors and is determined to optimize the organization’s structure around its main advocacy goals. Maintaining an optimal financial situation is of outmost importance to ensure the timely availability of necessary resources for the appropriate projects. His expertise and leadership in managing a prolific clinical trial unit translate into his role at the CDA, where he ensures balance, equity, and reliability in financial decisions and management while always keeping the patients’ and CDA members’ interests at the forefront.

Dr. Michelle Pratt earned her Bachelor of Science with Honours in Chemistry and her Doctor of Medicine from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of Ottawa, where she served as chief resident and received the Resident Patient Care Award. During her residency, she also obtained a graduate diploma in clinical epidemiology.
Currently, Dr. Pratt practices dermatology in St. John’s and serves as a clinical assistant professor at Memorial University. She manages a diverse array of complex cases in her community practice and is deeply involved in medical student and resident education, both as a clinical and research supervisor. Her research includes over 15 peer-reviewed publications, featuring case reports on adverse drug reactions and several systematic reviews. Her clinical interests encompass psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, acne, and skin cancer, and she is passionate about patient education and advocacy.
In 2023, Dr. Pratt was elected Atlantic Provinces Director for the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA). She also contributes as an advisory member on the CDA’s Skin Health Program Expert Advisory Board and Education Committee.

Dr. Elena Netchiporouk completed her medical training at the Université de Montreal, followed by a dermatology residency and a master’s degree in experimental medicine at McGill University. She worked as a full-time community dermatologist for a year before joining the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) in 2018 as a Director of the Undergraduate Medical Education in Dermatology and Assistant Professor of Dermatology.
Her clinical interests focus on complex medical dermatology, orphan diseases, and immune-mediated skin diseases, an area of significant unmet clinical need and patient advocacy. She established and co-directs several specialty clinics, such as the multi-disciplinary urticaria/mastocytosis, the multidisciplinary oncogenodermatology, and the skin fibrosis clinics, where she has the opportunity to teach and mentor dermatology residents and medical students.
Dr. Netchiporouk was appointed clinician investigator within the MUHC Research Institute in 2020, with 50% of time protected to research activities. Her current research focuses on the risk factors and pathogenesis of immune-mediated skin diseases and genodermatoses. In addition to a busy academic dermatology practice and research, Dr. Netchiporouk works once weekly in a community dermatology practice in underserved regions (Lanaudiere and Laurentides, Quebec). On a personal note, she is a mother of three young children.
She has authored over 145 peer-reviewed publications (netchiporouk e – Search Results – PubMed (nih.gov)), including articles in leading dermatology and medical journals such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, JAMA Dermatology, The Lancet, and The Lancet Americas. Her research has earned her an H index of 28. Additionally, she serves as an associate editor for the CDA’s Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery (JCMS).
As Regional Director for Quebec on the CDA Board of Directors, Dr. Netchiporouk is committed to supporting the CDA’s advocacy initiatives and public/patient education. During her term, she strives to empower junior dermatologists interested in medical dermatology by connecting them with established dermatologists based on their academic and clinical interests, while ensuring equity, diversity, and inclusion. Additionally, she aims to reactivate Quebec CDA journal clubs, providing a platform for dermatologists to share novel published findings and practical insights from their practices.
“Having experience in both community and academic settings, with a focus on clinical practice, research, and education, I believe I am well positioned to represent Quebec dermatologists within the CDA over the next three years. The key challenges our specialty faces include retaining both new and established dermatologists in medical dermatology, managing complex cases amidst increasingly busy practices, and balancing numerous commitments. I look forward to collaborating with the CDA and our members to address these challenges and enhance the practice of dermatology in Quebec and across Canada.”

Dr. Stéphanie Turmel
Dr. Stéphanie Turmel, born and based in Québec City, is a dermatologist with a strong interest in clinical care, continuing education, and professional collaboration. She earned her medical degree and completed her dermatology residency at Université Laval and has been practicing in Québec City since 2015. She currently works at Clinique Saint-Louis and the Centre de recherche Saint-Louis, where she participates in clinical trials mostly focused on inflammatory skin diseases.
Dr. Turmel is committed to improving dermatologic care through education and knowledge-sharing. She regularly organizes and delivers conferences for dermatologists and other healthcare professionals, covering both clinical innovations and broader issues such as Indigenous health, gender diversity, weight bias, and physician well-being. Her approach emphasizes humility, clarity, and inclusion, with a goal of strengthening interprofessional collaboration.
She is actively involved with the Association des médecins spécialistes dermatologues du Québec (AMSDQ) and the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec (FMSQ), where she contributes to initiatives related to healthcare delivery and ongoing medical education. She also serves as an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and contributes to national patient-focused projects such as the Canadian Psoriasis Patient Charter.
Dr. Turmel rejoined the Canadian Dermatology Association in 2025, motivated by a desire to help strengthen Québec’s voice within the national dermatology community. Her previous involvement with the CDA included moderating a session at the 2022 Annual Conference in Québec City on skin cancer and dermatologic care in First Nations populations. Earlier in her career, she was also a regular contributor to the CDA Bulletin during her dermatology residency.

Dr. Laura Pickett was born and raised in Stirling, Ontario, a small community just north of Belleville in southeastern Ontario. She completed her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at Queen’s University in 2002 and worked as a product development engineer in the automotive industry until 2007. Following her passion, she graduated from AUC Medical School in 2011, having completed most of her clinical training in London, the UK, Canada, and the U.S. Dr. Pickett completed her 5-year dermatology residency at the University of Ottawa.
After completing her dermatology training, Dr. Pickett returned to her underserved hometown and opened Quinte Dermatology, where she has served as medical director since 2018. She is an adjunct professor at Queen’s University, and in 2022, she received the Dr. John T. Tweddell Award, which is presented to the specialist who greatly enhances the educational experience for Queen’s Residents. Dr. Pickett received a nomination for the Queen’s University Regional Education Award in the mentorship category in 2024. She is building a dermatology centre in the Quinte region to increase skin-focused care in an underserved area.
Dr. Pickett has been a member of the CDA since 2012 and is excited to join the Board of Directors as the Regional Director for Ontario. She will be representing all members from this region, with a special focus on those practising in underserved communities.

Dr. Maxwell Benjamin Sauder, born and raised in Ontario, pursued his medical degree at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University, following his undergraduate studies at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He completed his residency in dermatology at the University of Ottawa and further specialized in cutaneous oncology with a fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School. Currently, Dr. Sauder practices in Toronto, Ontario, focusing on medical dermatology and cutaneous oncology. He is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto and serves as an onco-dermatologist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, with a focus on advancing dermatological care in oncology.
Dr. Sauder’s expertise spans both clinical practice and research, with numerous significant contributions to the field of dermatology. His research work includes over 40 clinical trials, primarily focused on inflammatory skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, where he serves as a principal investigator. He has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, with his most recent work appearing in the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and JAMA Dermatology. Since joining the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) in 2011, Dr. Sauder has been an active member, contributing to various committees and initiatives. His involvement includes roles on the Sun Awareness Working Group, Finance and Audit Committee, Governance and Nominating Committee, and Executive Committee. He is also currently serving as secretary of the Dermatology Association of Ontario.

Dr. Laurie Parsons was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and graduated from Memorial University Medical School before moving to Ottawa to complete studies and credentialing in the specialty of dermatology. Currently she is practicing dermatology at the University of Calgary academic centre, where she has the privilege of being part of the team training the next generation of dermatologists. Her interests are in the subspecialty areas of contact dermatitis and wound healing, where roughly 50% of her clinical time is divided between these two areas. She has just wrapped up 12 years as the Medical Director of the Sheldon Chumir wound clinic in Calgary, Alberta, where the clinic grew from one actively practicing physician to 9 physicians from various specialties working towards a common goal of creating an inclusive interdisciplinary environment for patients with wounds.
Upon completing her training, Dr. Parsons returned to Newfoundland, where she practiced in a grossly underserved community, being only one of two dermatologists in a population of over 500,000. Working collegially was the only way forward, and this rural experience underscored how the disparities in dermatology care are a wider problem in the geographically vast country. After spending 10 years in Newfoundland, she moved to Calgary for family reasons, and though her roots are in the east coast of Canada, there is a greater appreciation for all aspects of this country, and western roots have grown deep.
Privileged to be a part of the University of Calgary’s Dermatology Training program, Dr. Parsons has been the Chair of Selections and is now the CBD lead for the program. Teaching is a sacred commitment, and Dr. Parsons has been actively involved in teaching in the IIWCC, where she remains as an ad hoc faculty member and trains NSWOCC nurses interested in wound healing. Recognizing a need, she will also be starting the first-ever peristomal dermatitis clinic in Canada for the fall of 2025.
Building on her interests and her belief in the importance of advancing EDI, Dr. Parsons completed a diploma in the field with Cornell University and continues to incorporate EDI principles in interactions with students, colleagues, and patients. Her philosophy is perhaps best reflected in her guiding principle, inspired by the Dalai Lama: “Whenever possible, be kind… and it is always possible.” This value has shaped her approach to patient care, mentorship, and leadership.
She currently serves as Chair of the Specialty Committee in Dermatology at the Royal College, where, in light of recent changes within the RC and RCI, she is committed to ensuring the specialty continues to thrive into the next century. She has also served as Past President of the Canadian Contact Dermatitis Society, Interim Residency Program Director, and Interim Chief of the Calgary Division of Dermatology.
Dr. Parsons has been a member of the CDA for over 20 years since finishing residency in Ottawa. She is forever grateful for the teachers who have mentored her, and she believes in passing this forward. She believes we are stronger as a group than as individuals, and being able to contribute to the specialty and the organization is important and one of the founding values. She has also been a member of the Skin of Colour Society internationally, involved in the education, EDI, and annual meeting committees, and plans to continue to be involved even after she is no longer on the CDA Board. Guided by the belief that “what you do has far greater impact than what you say,”
Dr. Parsons emphasizes service, striving always to be her best through dedication to others. For her, being a part of this truly marvellous organization is an opportunity to do more.

Dr. Marcie Ulmer
Dr. Marcie Ulmer’s life and love for dermatology began in Saskatchewan. She completed her undergraduate degrees (BSc (Honours) and BSc (Med)) at the University of Saskatchewan and was introduced to the wonders of dermatology in the U of S College of Medicine. She completed her dermatology training in Vancouver at the University of British Columbia, where she currently resides. Dr. Ulmer has been assisting patients for over 17 years and is grateful to have the opportunity to manage their care within her comprehensive clinical practice at Pacific Derm, which includes both medical and aesthetic dermatology. She strives to offer patients the most up-to-date advancements in treatment options and innovation by actively participating in Pacific Derm’s clinical trials research unit.
Dr. Ulmer is a double-board certified dermatologist in both Canada and the United States. As a Clinical Instructor with the Department of Dermatology and Skin Science at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Ulmer has taught medical students and residents since the early days of her career. She has participated as a lecturer and chairperson at CME events for physician colleagues across Western Canada. Dr. Ulmer is committed to continued learning as well as teaching and believes the two go hand-in-hand. She believes that helping to train the next generation provides a welcome and reciprocal relationship, with an opportunity to learn from one another.
For over a decade, Dr. Ulmer has happily contributed her time and expertise to the Acne and Rosacea Society of Canada as a member of their Medical Committee. She is a contributing author of the Canadian Rosacea Guidelines and is passionate about providing credible educational resources for the public on acne and rosacea. She was a board member for the Canadian Society for Dermatologic Surgery for several years before joining the CDA Board of Directors as Regional Representative for British Columbia. Dr. Ulmer has acted as a reviewer for the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, and her work has been published in the medical literature. She has provided her voice to and expressed her opinions through the media on subjects varying from sun protection and skin cancer to educational pieces on skin care routines in varying climates and treatment options through the decades.
Dr. Ulmer joined the CDA in 2009 and began volunteering during her residency, dedicating many years to the CDA’s annual public skin cancer screening events. Dr. Ulmer’s ongoing commitment to the CDA is reflected in her current roles on the CDA Nominating Sub-Committee and as a Regional Director for British Columbia on the CDA board, where she focuses her energy to enhance and strengthen initiatives to support dermatology in Canada. Dr. Ulmer’s expertise in medical and aesthetic dermatology, as well as clinical research, provides a strong foundation for understanding the varying needs and interests of CDA members across a diverse range of professional experiences.

Dr. Valerie Doyon was born and raised on Vancouver Island in a French-speaking household. She completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Ottawa before earning her Doctor of Medicine from the University of British Columbia, where she was elected class president for four consecutive years. She is currently a third-year dermatology resident at the Université de Montréal.
Dr. Doyon’s professional experience includes clinical, academic, and research roles that reflect a broad engagement with the field of dermatology. She has a strong interest in public health, procedural safety, and medical education. She is actively involved in clinical research and has authored several peer-reviewed publications, including one that addressed the prevalence of pro-tanning content on TikTok, which contributed to policy changes on the platform. Her research on injection-related complications has been presented internationally, and her photoprotection article was among the top 25 most cited in the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery.
She is an avid teacher at the Université de Montréal, where she has developed educational resources for medical students, including video tutorials and standardized consult note templates. Dr. Doyon has also contributed to public education through her writing for Canadian Skin magazine and is a regular volunteer with the Mole Mobile skin cancer screening program, providing dermatologic outreach in underserved communities.
Dr. Doyon has been attending CDA conferences since 2020 and became a member at the start of her residency in 2023. She currently serves as co-chair of the CDA Residents and Fellows Society and acts as an abstract reviewer for the CDA Annual Conference. In her leadership role, she advocates for the needs of dermatology residents across Canada, contributing to the development of educational policy and ensuring the national curriculum reflects the diversity of both English and French programs. Alongside her co-chair, she organizes multiple national educational lecture series throughout the year for both junior and senior residents.

Dr. Jessica Ho
Dr. Jessica Ho was raised in Vancouver. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology with Distinction from the University of British Columbia before pursuing a master’s in public health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (London, UK). She earned her Doctor of Medicine from Queen’s University, where she also served as the Global Health Liaison Jr. and Sr. on the Aesculapian Society. She is currently a third-year dermatology resident at McGill University. Dr. Ho is also currently co-chief resident of her residency program, where she works to strengthen and improve the residency experience for her peers.
Dr. Ho’s professional experience demonstrates her strong interest in public health, advocacy, and clinical research. Before she pursued medicine, she completed an internship at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland, and also worked for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières at their Canadian offices in both Montreal and Toronto.
Throughout her medical education, she has been involved in clinical research and is the author of several peer-reviewed articles on various clinical topics in medical education and dermatology, such as atopic dermatitis, rosacea, and drug eruptions.
She has also been actively involved in medical education as a clinical skills instructor for junior medical students throughout medical school. Dr. Ho also contributes as an editor for topics on the Canadian Skin Patient Alliance (CSPA) website to further public education on clinical dermatology topics.
Dr. Ho has attended CDA conferences since 2022 and became a member of the CDA at the start of her residency in 2023.
She is currently the co-chair of the CDA Residents and Fellows Society. In this role, she organizes lecture series by speakers from across Canada for Canadian dermatology residents. These include the Junior Resident Bootcamp and the RASH (Resident Academic Study Hour) series to help prepare dermatology residents for their Royal College examinations. She looks forward to advocating for her fellow residents as CDA RFS co-chair and to continuing to implement national initiatives to further dermatology education.

Dr. Sonya Abdulla brings a wealth of experience and unique perspective to her role as the CDA’s representative to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Dermatology Specialty Committee.
Raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Dr. Abdulla has a deep appreciation for the breadth and depth of healthcare resources available in smaller centers. She completed undergraduate studies and medical school at the University of Ottawa, as well as a master’s degree at the University of Saskatchewan. Her dermatology training was completed at the University of Toronto, followed by subspecialty fellowship training in aesthetic medicine and laser surgery.
Dr. Abdulla was awarded the University of Ottawa’s André Péloquin Award for excellence in patient care at the undergraduate medicine level. She brings this compassion and attention to detail to her blended medical and aesthetic practice in downtown Toronto, where she is involved in teaching and research. Her clinical focus includes acne and rosacea, with a special interest in medical and aesthetic dermatology for richly pigmented skin. She is currently co-chairing the Canadian Acne Guidelines. Dr. Abdulla’s clinical expertise and thoughtful approach to patient management have established her as a key educator on common skin health topics for both the medical community and the general public.
Beyond her clinical expertise, Dr. Abdulla has a unique background, having worked on Parliament Hill – an uncommon path for someone in medicine. While studying in Ottawa, Dr. Abdulla was involved with other key national medical organizations; she sat on the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Committee on Workforce and Education, the RCPSC Education Committee, and the CaRMS Board of Directors. Her involvement in advocacy continued through residency as a PAIRO/PARO representative and as a resident representative on the CDA’s Education Committee.
Dr. Abdulla began her CDA committee work early in her career, serving on the Education Committee and chairing the Membership and Awards Committee. In 2022, she was elected Secretary of the CDA’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee, where she was involved with key member outreach initiatives, including co-chairing the inaugural Resident Procedural Dermatology Course.
As the CDA Representative to the RCPSC Dermatology Specialty Committee, Dr. Abdulla integrates her advocacy experience with a focus on education and health human resource planning. She strongly believes that the CDA plays a key role in representing Canadian dermatology and its members in the medical community at large on matters related to the specialist workforce and training, as well as timely access to quality dermatologic care.

Born in Quebec, Jacinthe Desaulniers is a seasoned leader with over 25 years of leadership experience in Ontario’s healthcare sector. Ms. Desaulniers’ career is marked by a transformative 15-year tenure as the CEO of Réseau des Services de Santé en Français de l’Est de l’Ontario (RSSFE).
