Dr. Mariusz Sapijaszko immigrated to Canada in the late 1980s, and he has made significant contributions to Canadian values through his work, research, education, and dedication.
His educational journey began in Calgary, where he completed his high school, undergraduate, and medical school studies, as well as volunteer commitments. Dr. Sapijaszko then pursued specialized training in dermatology and fellowship programs at the University of British Columbia and the University of California, San Francisco. Throughout that period, Dr. Sapijaszko remained involved in student and physician leadership.
Upon returning to Alberta, Dr. Sapijaszko established a community-based practice focusing on surgical, medical, and research dermatology, including skin cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. During this period, Dr. Sapijaszko also became actively involved in provincial and national medical organizations, including the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, the Alberta Medical Association, the Alberta Society of Dermatologists, the Canadian Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Canadian Dermatology Association.
Dr. Sapijaszko has dedicated his attention to the prevention, detection, and treatment of skin cancer. Recently, he pursued studies in complementary and regenerative medicine, with an emphasis on general health and dermatology.
On the advocacy side, Dr. Sapijaszko has been involved at regional, provincial, and national levels, advocating for the promotion and protection of dermatologists as experts in the health and disease of skin, hair, and nails.
Dr. Sapijaszko has been actively involved with the CDA for nearly 25 years, serving on various committees, including the Sun Awareness Working Group and the Future of Dermatology Working Group. He has also held several leadership positions on the CDA Board of Directors, including Secretary, Vice President, President Elect, President, and Past President.

This distinction carries the responsibility of leading the promotion, protection, and advocacy for dermatologists across all subspecialties. The CDA must actively engage with diverse dermatology communities, providing both logistical and mentorship support. I believe that we are in a privileged position to advocate for our patients to receive care from qualified dermatologists in Canada. Every patient deserves to be seen by a Canadian dermatologist when they have skin, hair, or nail concerns. It is our duty to strive towards this goal and elevate dermatologic care in Canada. I am committed to this goal.”
